NAPMA “Paths to Leadership” Book

We just finished a new project for NAPMA (National Association of Professional Martial Artists), a ghostwriting and graphic design book project called “The Path to Leadership.” A very interesting book, which explains why choosing a professional martial arts school, with NAPMA members as owners, is beneficial for children in many ways.

NAPMA espouses the philosophy that the martial arts helps develop positive character traits in children and  teens, which contribute to attitudes of respect, focus, academic excellence and perseverance.

The book is based on an outline by Toby Milroy, COO of NAPMA, and his draft of the first  three chapters. The remaining chapters were written by prominent martial arts school owners who are advanced members of NAPMA, as well as being child education experts in their own right. Jackie Wells Smith, Editorial Director of Wells-Smith Partners, then interviewed Toby for additional material, and edited the original manuscript with the interview material to produce a finished version, which I then designed a cover and interior format, and produced the book for print-on-demand production and distribution through Amazon’s createspace.com.

The book will be used as a promotional tool for NAPMA, and provided to members for use in educating their prospective and current student parents about the benefits of using a NAPMA-certified professional martial arts school.

Wells-Smith Partners has been responsible over the last two years for print publication and marketing materials for NAPMA, including Martial Arts Professional magazine, Mastering the Martial Arts Business magazine and monthly member materials. WSP replaced a four-person in-house creative department. We’ve also produced many projects for NAPMA’s owner and CEO, Stephen Oliver, for nearly ten years.

Cooperative effort by Toby Milroy, NAPMA COO and several other high-ranking martial arts professionals. This book is intended for martial arts school owners to use in educating students, parents and prospects about the advantages of using professionally-trained and certified martial arts instructors and school owners who are affiliated with the National Association of Professional Martial Artists.

Book design and production by Gary Smith; interviews with Milroy, additional writing and copyediting by Jackie Smith. Printed by createspace.com.

Here is the second issue of Mastering the Martial Arts Business magazine, the successor to Martial Arts Professional magazine. Venerable old MAPro has converted to an online-only publication, so it can be  updated more frequently and contain more archival and other content. The new title represents the new direction for the association in focusing more intently on how to run a martial arts school business, rather than the standard “punches-and-kicks” fare of most publications of this type.

The design is based in a tabloid format, 10-1/2″ x 13″, to create a large impact of subscriber’s desks when delivered. It contains articles of a more business focus, reduces the number of columnists and stale industry news, and re-designs the table of contents to reflect all of NAPMA’s online properties and content.
